Bringing Art to Lamar Street
The festival provides a platform for many locally l recognized artists, many of whom live in the Cedars neighborhood and in the South Side on Lamar building. The 11th Annual Cedars Open Studios, highlighting over __ artist residences and studios in the neighborhood will be included in the Lamar Street Festival .The festival also showcases over 40 juried painters, sculptors, jewelry makers and multimedia artist booths with art for sale.
INTERACTIVE ART ZONE
Lamar Street Festival’s Interactive Zone will be an artistic, hands-on and playfully creative destination for all ages and will include storytellers, magicians, puppet shows, jugglers and Dallas Heritage Village demonstrations. In honor of the South Side on Lamar building’s 100 years, Big Thought’s artists will host a “Then & Now” area where children may create art and enjoy play opportunities like those enjoyed in 1913 (Lincoln Logs and Erector Sets) as well as some that are present translations of the same games. A time machine photo booth will offer turn of the century costumes for kids as well as a Dallas history lesson. The Dallas LOVE Project will provide an opportunity to make art for the 50th year commemoration of John F. Kennedy’s life and legacy in November. A musical petting zoo featuring orchestra instruments will allow young festival goers to “meet” the instruments as well as the musicians who play them. The Dallas Public Library’s Bookmobile will also be on site for young readers.
