Lamar Street Festival’s Interactive Zone will be an artistic, hands-on and playfully creative destination for all ages and will include storytellers, magicians, puppet shows, jugglers and Dallas Heritage Village demonstrations. In honor of the South Side on Lamar building’s 100 years, Big Thought’s artists will host a “Then & Now” area where children may create art and enjoy play opportunities like those enjoyed in 1913 (Lincoln Logs and Erector Sets) as well as some that are present translations of the same games. A time machine photo booth will offer turn of the century costumes for kids as well as a Dallas history lesson. The Dallas LOVE Project will provide an opportunity to make art for the 50th year commemoration of John F. Kennedy’s life and legacy in November. A musical petting zoo featuring orchestra instruments will allow young festival goers to “meet” the instruments as well as the musicians who play them. The Dallas Public Library’s Bookmobile will also be on site for young readers.
The Making Art with Purpose (MAP) Project will infuse the festival with a surprise happening and the passionate local artist collective ArtLoveMagic known for dynamic events that often take place in the South Side on Lamar building, will showcase its collection of talented personalities and colorful artists working in a variety of mediums. As the sun sets, ArtLoveMagic will transform the area into a live interactive art show for adults where festival guests may simply observe an ArtLoveMagic event or create a piece to take home.
